In some cases a passport will be required for entering a country but this is not going to be required for all countries. It is best to go and have a passport available at all times though. Don't forget that some countries will not recognize certain countries and as a result the countries that are not recognized will not have their passports officially accepted.

All countries generally have rules stating that the person who is from the country that the passport is for must have it when returning to the country. A passport is always required for entry into the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and most European Union countries. In many cases traveling to areas owned by the country of origin will not require a passport. For instance, an American does not need a passport for traveling to Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
