Tips forTraveling Overseas - The Process of Registering a Passport

All travel outside of the United States to countries that are not controlled by the United States will require the use of a passport. This is the case for many other countries too.

A passport is important to use and registering a passport is very easy to do. It requires using the right forms and going to the right place for getting the passport properly handled.

Passport registration is important for international travel. This is especially the case for people in the United States because laws state that a passport is required for any international travel. This is especially important because it allows easy entry out of and back into the country.

The first thing to do for registration is to go to a local post office. Post offices around the United States will have offices that allow for people to apply for passports. Passport registration will need to be scheduled at any post office. Going to the United States Department of State website state.gov can be used for finding a local office that offers registration services and in many cases will have printable forms that can be used to be sent to the office.

For registration a series of information will be required. The general data of the person who is getting the passport will be required. For international travel the name, home address and date of birth will be required. All of these details and more will need to be written on Form DS-11, which is the application used by the country for a new passport.

Evidence of American citizenship is also required. A certified birth certificate, a consular report of birth outside of the country, a naturalization certificate, a certificate of citizenship or a previous issued passport is required. After this when applying in person a driver's license, naturalization certificate, government or military identification card or a previously issued passport will be needed.

Passport photos will be needed in many cases. These photos can be taken at a typical drugstore and printed in minutes for use.

After all of this is done the processing fees for a passport for international travel will need to be collected. It takes about one or two months to get a passport but expedited services are available at a higher cost. The final passport will be mailed to the applicant to the address that was provided in the application.

Registering a passport is easy to do and is important for international travel. It is required for international travel so it will be easy to get out of and into a home country. It is also easy to do with the proper form from a local post office as long as an appointment is made. By using this process international travel will be possible thanks to the passport.
